In 1971, Vietnam Bamboo and Rattan Import-Export Company was established.. In the early days, Barotex's market was the former socialist countries, mainly the Soviet Union. In the early years of its establishment, Barotex focused on building facilities, perfecting its apparatus, finding every solution to exploit potential, human resources as well as raw materials for production. Thanks to that, Barotex has achieved many positive achievements and became the 1st handicraft exporting company in Vietnam.

In the next 5 years (1976-1980), Barotex established branches in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang City, with export turnover increasing 3.85 times. During the period 1980 - 1985, along with the general difficulties of the country, Barotex's export turnover decreased, but the total export turnover still increased 2.31 times compared to the period 1976-1980. In 2004, Vietnam Bamboo and Rattan Import-Export Company was officially transformed from a state-owned enterprise to a joint stock company.

On May 18, 2010, the company changed its name to "BAROTEX VIETNAM INVESTMENT AND TRADING JOINT STOCK COMPANY" and was granted a new business license.

On July 1, 2014, the Handicraft Import-Export Department of Barotex Vietnam Investment and Trading Joint Stock Company was transformed into a Limited Liability Company under the name of BAROTEX HANOI COMPANY LIMITED. After more than 50 years of development, Barotex has made steady steps and affirmed its reputation in the world market. Along with the achievement of increased export turnover, the Company has created jobs and helped many craft villages improve their income.

On February 20, 2025 BAROTEX HANOI COMPANY LIMITED was renamed to 1971 BAMBOO AND RATTAN EXPORT COMPANY LIMITED with the international trading name: BAROTEX 1971 CO. LTD. This change is to acknowledge the history of formation and sustainable development over the past 50 years. The company is operated by members who have worked at Barotex for more than 20 years with the desire to continue the tradition of handicraft business for the benefit of craftsmen and to remember history. With a young, creative and dedicated leadership team, BAROTEX 1971 focuses on key areas such as exporting handicrafts made from rattan, bamboo, sedge, jute, leaves, herbal fibers, ceramics, lacquer and embroidery. We aim to develop BAROTEX 1971 to become a leading company providing handicrafts with competitive prices, stable quality and rich designs. With the experience, creativity, intellectual strength and solidarity of the staff, BAROTEX 1971 constantly strives to bring customers the best products with the motto that customer satisfaction is the success of BAROTEX 1971.
